Early in September I was in Valencia, Spain for the REWBAH workshop (Requirements Engineering for Well-Being, Aging, and Health), which was part of the Requirements Engineering conference. It turned out to be such a rewarding experience – good discussions, lots of inspiration, and a chance to connect with people working on similar topics.
I presented our paper Iterative Development of a Semi-Structured Interview Guide to Explore Clinicians’ Experiences with Connected Mental Health. In it, we present how we designed and refined our interview guide step by step – starting with brainstorming sessions, gathering feedback from clinical experts, and then testing it out in pilot interviews. What might look like “just a set of questions” actually went through several rounds of revisions before becoming a tool that we are currently using in our project.
What I enjoyed most was how much people related to the challenges of doing this kind of work – asking the right questions, making them clear and relevant, and balancing structure with openness. The conversations during the workshop gave me new perspectives on how others approach similar issues in healthcare and technology.
And as a nice outcome, we’re now also planning to write a joint paper with the organizers and other participants on some of the common themes that emerged during the workshop. Looking forward to how it turns out!
All in all, a great trip – and a reminder of how valuable it is to share not just results, but also the process of how we get there.
